Turn Oakland County Green (TOCG) emerged in December 2019 as a response to the growing threat of climate change and the need for local governments to take action, and to unite under one principle: our transition to a cleaner economy can be one that benefits all people. It must make clean, green technology accessible and affordable. We're a growing movement, just as diverse as Oakland County itself. Together, we can achieve climate justice for all.

In 2020, TOCG published a document, known as the Oakland County Climate, Jobs, and Justice Platform. It pushed for, among other things, Oakland County to take a stronger leadership role in responding to the climate crisis. As part of promoting awareness about the environment in Oakland County, TOCG hosted its first Earth Day in 2022, with over three hundred people marching for climate action through Royal Oak.

Since then, the Earth Day event has become a signature annual moment of action, hosting speakers ranging from candidates to advocates to media personalities, and always raising awareness with a side of fun and creative expression. Each year, organizers feature an action to help advocate and make real change in our communities, as well as give people a chance to learn from businesses, nonprofits, and artists in the area about sustainability.
